Ovulation Timing is the key to a successful breeding program

One of the most essential elements in organising animal breeding is detecting the moment of ovulation. This is of utmost importance to the efficiency with which the female is served; effective mating being so closely dependant on it being done
at the right moment. Therefore, in the search for a sure and simple-to-use-method of detecting ovulation, scientists and animal breeders, determined a direct interdependence between changes in the electrical resistance of vaginal mucus and the occurrence of ovulation.
In the course of research on the properties of vaginal mucus, scientists determined that the closer to ovulation, the more the change in its electrical resistance. Knowledge to date on animal physiology, in particular about changes occurring in sexual organs during the oestrus cycle, have enabled science to understand the correlation of changes occurring in the ovaries and changes in electrical resistance of mucus in the bitch’s vaginal vestibule.
All of the above mentioned phenomena and interdependence of electrical resistance on ovulation have been used to advantage by DRAMIŃSKI in constructing the ELECTRONIC OVULATION DETECTOR for dogs.
Ovulation timing is a valuable tool in any breeding program. It allows us to determine when to breed a bitch to optimize the chance of pregnancy, as well as achieve pregnancy in many bitches thought to be infertile. Timing is essential for specialty breedings like fresh-chilled and frozen, and can also help us accurately predict due dates.
It will help you to understand the bitches estrus cycle. As you probably know, female dogs come in heat about twice a year. The heat (or estrus) will last about 3-4 weeks, and in the normal course of breeding, the bitch will stand to be bred somewhere between 10 and 15 days along. This varies a lot, however, and some bitches need to be bred as early as 5-6 days, others as late as 25-30.
DRAMIŃSKI Dog Ovulation Detector. The detector is a portable device that helps determining the optimal time for mating. The detector is a small, portable and very versatile instrument which is powered by a common 9V battery. It gives readouts of electrical resistance of vaginal mucus which undergoes characteristic changes during the course of heat.
The detector for dogs enables:
- exclusion of multiple mating of the bitch
- identification of so called "false heat"
- elimination of problems associated with disorders during heat
- great reduction in financial costs of multiple mating
